Governor of the Diffa region calls for aid of displaced persons

The Governor of the Diffa region in Niger has said that it is proving to be difficult to help the tens and thousands of displaced persons seeking refuge from the recent attacks in the area.

“We are doing our best to help relieve the suffering of the population. People are moving and if they are dispersed, it’s difficult to help them. We have the sites and its easy to help those who are already settled in them but very difficult for those who are still displaced,” said Dan Dano Mahamadou Lawaly,Governor of the Diffa region.

The raids carried out by Boko Haram insurgents have resulted to at least 50,000 people fleeing the region, following what is considered to be one of the deadliest attacks ever in Bosso town.

“From the security point of view, Bosso is under control. Not even a metre of the Nigerian territory is occupied by any sect,” he also said.

The attack on the southeastern town of Bosso led to the death of at least 36 soldiers.
